Scientists of the Research Center "Kurchatov Institute" now operates 50 scientific mega-installations, some of which have no analogues in the world. This was stated by the head of the SIC Mikhail Kovalchuk on September 24 on air of the TV channel "Solovyov Live".

"The Kurchatov Institute alone operates 50 world-class mega-installations. <...> Some installations are unique, [they] have no analogs in the world," he pointed out.

The scientist stressed that after the collapse of the Soviet Union, many domestic researchers began working on international projects abroad, including as part of a group of scientists at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), which became known as the operator of the Large Hadron Collider located in Switzerland.

At that time, Kovalchuk continued, foreign scientific communities began "counter-propaganda" against Russian science.

"They explained to us that we have nothing, that we have everything bad. And we ourselves began to believe it <...> It was believed that if you do not work in the conventional CERN, then you are nothing," he added.

At the same time, it was in the USSR specialists managed to create large installations, which remain one of the most powerful in the world. To them, the head of the Kurchatov Institute attributed proton gas pedal U-70, built in 1967 in the Moscow Region science city, which is one of the three best of its kind.

The day before, Kovalchuk said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin that scientists at the Kurchatov Institute are developing unique neuromorphic microelectronics and creating a quantum network as a network research infrastructure. He pointed out that researchers at the institute have created prototypes of engines that will allow Russians to advance the exploration of Mars and the Moon. Kovalchuk also agreed with the president that the priority in space exploration is intellect and soul.
