Discussions on lifting restrictions on Ukraine ' s use of Western weapons will continue this week. This was announced by EU diplomatic chief Josep Borrell on September 23, when asked about "positive signs" of a decision on Kiev's use of long-range weapons.

"We will continue to discuss this this week and in particular at the G7 level," the diplomat said during a press conference in New York, broadcast on the European Commission's website.

Earlier, on September 19, at a plenary session in Strasbourg, MEPs adopted by a majority vote a resolution calling on European Union (EU) countries to lift restrictions on Ukraine ' s strikes on Russian territories.

Before that, on September 14, former US election campaigner Robert Kennedy Jr. warned Washington against making a decision to allow the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to strike deep into Russian Federation with high-precision Western missiles. He asked for an end to "this reckless escalation."

On September 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin said about the consequences of possibly allowing Ukraine to strike deep into Russian territories. The president said that a possible authorization of the USA and the European Union to strike Russian territory would speak about their direct involvement in the Ukrainian conflict and would fundamentally change its essence.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the background of Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which began on February 24, 2022. The decision to conduct it was taken by the Russian president because of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to the increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
