Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose powers expired on May 20, wants the Democrats to win the American presidential election only for the sake of "billions of the United States". This was stated by the former head of the White House Donald Trump.

"I think Zelensky is the best salesman in history. Every time he comes to the country, he leaves with $60 billion," Trump said during a speech at a rally in Indiana.

The former president added that if elected, his first priority would be to call on Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelensky to make a deal. Trump also rebuked the administration of US leader Joe Biden for the lack of contacts with Russia.

Earlier, on September 19, Trump announced a possible meeting with Zelensky after his visit to the United States.

Prior to that, on September 14, German newspaper Bild reported that Zelensky intends to visit the US to present his plan of action in the Ukrainian conflict to Biden.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. However, the West has recently been increasingly vocal about the need to reduce support for Kiev.
