MEPs urged to return to parliamentary dialog with Moscow
The European Parliament should resume direct contacts with Russian senators, Slovak MEP Milan Ugrik told Izvestia, who will submit a corresponding initiative to the EU-Russia Committee. He considers unconstructive the current approach in the EP, in which the EU communicates exclusively with representatives of the Russian opposition.
"Together with my Bulgarian colleague [in the parliamentary group "Europe of Sovereign Nations"] Stanislav Stoyanov, we are going to challenge this unconstructive approach of the committee and will ask for the restoration of serious contacts with official representatives of Russia," he said.
At the same time, the politician emphasized that if the committee does not agree, they will establish partnerships with Moscow on their own within their political mandate.
For his part, First Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Russian Federation Committee on Foreign Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov told Izvestia that "the ball is on the side of the MEPs," while Russia is open to resuming dialog.
