- Cosmonaut Kononenko became a record-breaker in terms of time spent in space
Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko, who returned on September 23 on the Soyuz MS-25 spacecraft from the International Space Station (ISS), stayed in space for 1111 days, which became an absolute world record.
As noted by Izvestia correspondent Denis Vorobyov, during this unique expedition Kononenko celebrated his 60th birthday in orbit and dozens of other holidays. Cosmonauts received gifts from Earth and sent video messages back to Earth. Not a single holiday or achievement was without their congratulations.
"According to the report, the crew is feeling well and will be taken to Moscow for post-flight rehabilitation after being examined by doctors," said Ivan Shchurov, a spokesman for the Russian ISS segment's main mission control task force.
Kononenko was not the first time in the mission, unlike Nikolai Chub, for whom this flight was the debut. The cosmonaut had been preparing for it for 11 years.
Their flight was followed by friends and family. Kononenko's son communicated with his father by video link every week. He is studying aviation and plans to follow in his footsteps.
"I like the profession because it brings partly technical breakthroughs, scientific experiments, extreme environment. You constantly have to keep yourself fit. I like that. And all the scientific experiments that are conducted, I am also interested," - shared Andrei Kononenko.
The descent vehicle "Soyuz MS-25" with Russian cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko, Nikolai Chub, who spent one year on the ISS, as well as American astronaut Tracy Dyson landed in Kazakhstan on September 23.
Earlier, on July 5, it was reported that Oleg Kononenko became the first person in history who cumulatively spent a thousand days in space.
Before that, on February 4, the Russian cosmonaut exceeded the achievement of his compatriot Gennady Padalka, who for his five space flights accumulated a total of 878 days 11 hours 29 minutes and 48 seconds.
