- Russian paratroopers have captured an AFU stronghold in the border region of Kursk Oblast
In the border areas of Kursk Region, Airborne Troops (VDV) units from the Northern Grouping of Troops continued to improve their frontline position and captured a stronghold of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) in one of the wooded areas. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on September 24.
During reconnaissance of the AFU positions from the air, the paratroopers uncovered the enemy's defense system and firepower. Then the paratroopers' artillery and unmanned aviation units suppressed the firing positions of the AFU mortars and destroyed the uncovered control points.
After that, the paratroopers moved on paratrooper combat vehicles in the direction of the AFU positions. Thus, firing small arms fire, they proceeded to capture and clear the enemy stronghold. At the same time, UAV operators were conducting aerial surveillance.
In the end, the Russian units managed to seize the stronghold and clear it. The occupied positions were handed over to our reinforcement units.
Earlier, on September 23, specialists of the engineering unit of the Rosgvardiya detected an AFU "deception" drone in the Kursk region. Rosgvardia specialists received information that a drone had fallen near a settlement in the region. Arriving at the scene, the Rosgvardeys found a decoy drone of the airplane type. As explained in the Rosgvardiya, the AFU uses such drones to find weaknesses in the air defense system of the Russian Armed Forces.
Ukrainian militants attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The operation to destroy the AFU continues. For the entire time of fighting in the region, the Ukrainian army has lost up to 16.4 thousand military personnel.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
