The IDF's offensive operation in Lebanon has been dubbed "Arrows of the North"
The operation of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in Lebanon against the Shiite movement "Hezbollah" was named "Arrows of the North". The IDF Spokesperson's Office said on September 23.
"The offensive operation on the northern front has been named "Arrows of the North." This was announced by Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi," the army press service's Telegram channel said in a statement.
Within the framework of the operation, warplanes made more than 650 sorties during the day to strike the Lebanese movement "Hezbollah". It is specified that the targets were buildings, vehicles and infrastructure that posed a threat to Israel and which contained rockets and drones. In just 24 hours, the IDF struck approximately 1,300 Hezbollah targets.
On September 23, the IDF launched massive strikes against Shiite Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. Another strike followed in Beirut. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the country was acting preemptively against the Hezbollah threat. Hezbollah, however, indicated that the target was the Israeli Air Force's Ramat David airbase. According to the latest figures, 492 people were killed and 1,645 injured.
The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) called for an end to the bombing of Lebanon for the safety of civilians who are forced to flee.
On September 17, numerous people were seriously injured in pager explosions in Beirut and southern Lebanon. The following day, various wireless devices exploded in cars and on motorcycles. These were portable radios, which were different from pagers. Lebanese authorities and Hezbollah representatives blamed Israel for the explosions.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected Israel's territory to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip, as well as invaded border areas in the south of the country and took hostages. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
