Zakharova called Zelensky's award in the U.S. a "prize for divorcing humanity"
The award received by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (whose official powers expired on May 20) in the USA from the American Academy of Achievement should properly have been given to him not for the "development of humanity", but for his "divorce". Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on September 23.
"The golden plate is for the development of humanity. Maybe for the divorce of humanity? If something and lies on this golden plate, it is the lives of Ukrainians, which he sacrificed to the deep "American academy"," the diplomat wrote in her Telegram-channel.
Earlier in the day, the press service of the Ukrainian leader said that Zelensky received the annual award of the American Academy of Achievement - The Golden Plate Award at a ceremony in New York. It was presented to the politician by the leader of the Republican Party in the U.S. Senate Mitch McConnell.
Zelensky flew to the United States on Sunday, September 22, where he is expected to present to the American leader Joe Biden his plan of action in the conflict in Ukraine. It was noted that this draft implies a demand to authorize Kiev to launch strikes on Russian territories.
According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, there is currently a lot of contradictory and unreliable information on Zelensky's visit, which the Russian authorities treat with restraint. It will be received and analyzed only after data from official sources.
On the same day, British professor Mark Galeotti wrote in The Times that Zelensky's allies do not believe in the very possibility of victory under his plan. According to the expert, U.S. representatives have familiarized themselves with the main ideas of the plan and concluded that it is generally practical, but does not give an idea of how Kiev intends to end the conflict.
Earlier, on September 14, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the United States and the United Kingdom had already issued Kiev all indulgences and given carte blanche to use missiles for attacks on Russian territory.
