Rimmarita Clinic chief physician, PhD, nutritionist, molecular nutritionist Rimma Moisenko reported on Monday, September 23, about the benefits of rice and how many times a week it should be consumed.

"Rice is considered a staple food on the table, especially in Southeast Asian countries and India. This cereal can replace bread because it has a fairly high percentage of starch, which means it raises blood glucose levels. "Different types of rice people use for satiety, but the optimal amount of consumption is from two to three times a week," - said the expert in conversation with Radio 1.

According to the nutritionist, the healthiest rice is the one that contains more fiber.

"The shell is a wonderful probiotic and reduces cholesterol and blood glucose levels. It's best to choose rice that has the lowest glycemic index - that's semi-cooked rice - to an al dente state, for example. Pure white has a high glycemic index, which instantly and for a long time raises blood glucose levels, "- warned the nutritionist.

Also, the specialist did not recommend eating rice together with meat.

"Rice contains a large amount of starch. As soon as it enters the stomach, it requires a large amount of digestive juices for digestion. And we also need to digest the meat, which means we need to produce a lot of enzymes to digest the protein. It turns out that the rice will be digested first and the meat will not. Hence there may be a secondary protein deficiency associated with the wrong combination of products," explained the nutritionist.

Rice is well combined with vegetables, concluded the nutritionist.

As follows from the data of experts, which were familiarized by "Izvestia", the average cost of long-grain rice has increased by 12% over the year, medium-grain - by 13%.

According to the research, round rice is the most popular among Russians - it accounts for about 63% of sales, long-grain rice - 24%, and medium-grain rice - 13%.
