The Government of Lebanon has declared that there is no threat to food security

There is no threat to food security in Lebanon, the food reserves for the population should be enough for six months. This was announced by Lebanese Economy Minister Amin Salam on September 23.

"We have sufficient food stocks for several months, additional quantities are on their way into the country. If there are no problems with imports and exports, there will be enough food reserves for six months," RIA Novosti quotes the government press release .

As emphasized by the head of the ministry, the ministry is in constant contact with large retail chains. And also monitors how the plan to distribute products in the regions where there is the largest influx of internally displaced persons from the south is being implemented. Salam also added that the government has received a positive response from the UN coordinator's office to the request to provide humanitarian aid to those in need.

Earlier on September 23, Lebanon's emergency center said that the death toll from the Israeli strike on the southern territory of the country had risen to 100 people. It was also specified that more than 400 people were wounded. Among the dead and wounded there are children, women, as well as medical workers.

On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the situation in the Middle East regarding Israel ' s conflict with Lebanon's Shiite movement Hezbollah degenerates every day and is of extreme concern to Russia.

The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) told Izvestia on September 21 that there is a risk of escalation on the Lebanese-Israeli border escalating into a regional conflict. The UN mission is working intensively to de-escalate tensions that could potentially trigger a wider conflict.

The Economist magazine reported on Sept. 22 that Israel is preparing a ground operation in Lebanon that would involve seizing a buffer zone consisting of several miles of territory north of the border. The publication noted that Israel Defense Forces (IDF) combat units trained on Saturday at northern bases but had not yet begun assembling in staging areas near the border.

On September 17, numerous people were seriously injured in pager explosions in Beirut and southern Lebanon. The next day, various wireless devices exploded in cars and on motorcycles. These were portable radios, which were different from pagers. In just two days, more than 4,000 people were affected and more than 30 of them were killed. Lebanese authorities and representatives of Hezbollah blamed Israel for the bombings.

The situation in the Middle East escalated in the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to massive rocket fire from the Gaza Strip, as well as invaded the border areas in the south of the country and seized hostages. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
