The Greek military has complained of a bed bug infestation.
Greek servicemen complain of bed bugs infestation, in some military camps there is an unacceptable situation. This is stated in a request from members of the Greek Parliament, posted on September 23 on the website of the country's Defense Ministry.
"Recently, following protests by soldiers in the camps of the Third Reconnaissance Division in Alexandroupolis and the 298th Motorized Battalion of the National Guard in Samos, an unacceptable situation with the presence of bed bugs in soldiers' quarters became known," the document reads.
In their statement, the MPs recalled the danger of bed bug bites to human health. So, they can provoke allergic shock, itching and skin irritation.
"Instead of appropriate necessary measures bedbugs were destroyed by fire and calcination of metal frames of beds by the soldiers themselves," - said in the text of the request, which quotes "RIA Novosti".
Deputies of the Greek Parliament called on the relevant Department to organize a set of measures to solve the problem.
Earlier, on May 12, pest control expert Manfred Bolz said in an interview with Bild newspaper that the bed bug infestation may get out of control in Europe, especially in France and Germany. Moreover, this is the first time he has encountered something like this in his 40 years of practice. A real "bed bug avalanche" has been building up for eight years, the expert said.
