Subversion theory: new demining system will create maps of minefields
Russian deminers will have maps of minefields created with the help of a neural network. This has become possible thanks to the Minskan humanitarian demining system. It is based on a medium-class drone with GPR. It detects explosive objects eight times faster than it would be done by sappers on foot. How this system will facilitate the work of our military and what are its advantages - in the material "Izvestia".
How the new demining system "Minskan"will work
Specialists of Bauman Moscow State Technical University have created an automated system of humanitarian demining "Minskan". It will help to clear the territory of dangerous finds after the end of hostilities. The system is based on a medium-class unmanned hexacopter with a georadar, a representative of the university told Izvestia.
- After any armed confrontation ends, the fields remain strewn with mines," he explained. - And those who put these mines have already forgotten where they are. Then this drone takes to the sky , flies over the field at low altitude and looks for mines. GPR scans what's underneath it. Using the data, a neural network processes the results and builds a map of where and at what depth the mines are located.
The device can scan large areas. For a unit of working time it covers an area eight times larger than a conventional sapper can do. And most importantly - this method of search excludes human participation, so specialists are not exposed to unnecessary risk.
- You open a laptop, set a flight task, the device takes off and explores a certain area. A person with a remote control backs up the process, but in general, the drone copes with the task and independently. GPR can work at temperatures from minus 40 to plus 40 degrees. The drone flies in side winds of up to 15 meters per second. The system has already been developed and tested," explained a representative of Bauman Moscow State Technical University.
The drone's operating time is 40 minutes, its diameter is one and a half meters.
How "Minskan" will help Russian sappers
In the course of hostilities, the enemy constantly makes attempts to remotely mine the territory under our control and not only, military expert Yuri Lyamin explained to Izvestia.
-The AFU is using remote systems, so our military is constantly working on demining, " he said. - This helps them to move forward gradually, preserving the possibility of full-fledged supply, and also gives the civilians the opportunity to return to their homes. The idea developed by specialists of Bauman Moscow State Technical University is interesting, but we need to see how effective it will be in practice.
According to the expert, the use of "Minskan" may require working in conjunction.
- That is, we use these drones for the initial inspection - to find the most obvious, visible and dangerous places. This will greatly speed up the work for our sappers, as well as reduce the risk to their lives. Russian developers have already created robotic platforms for humanitarian demining, but people are also involved in their work. I hope that the developers of this drone will refine it based on the experience gained, in which case it could become an indispensable assistant for the Russian military.
Military expert Alexei Leonkov noted in a conversation with Izvestiathat work on the creation of robotic complexes related to demining has been underway for quite a long time.
-There are quite well-known systems that have already proved themselves, for example, "Uran-6", which mines entire strips and replaces the work of 30 sappers within an hour," he reminded. - The enemy puts a variety of mines, including unrecoverable, shell-less, booby-trapped mines, which are quite difficult for a deminer to detect. And even if he finds them, demining is associated with a great risk to life. But if there is a preliminary demining reconnaissance and if geolocation allows to identify all types of mines, it will make the work of the deminer very easy. Here he will be able to decide where he will be engaged in demining himself, and where he will involve robotic complexes.
Earlier "Izvestia" wrote that private business will participate in clearing mines and shells from the territory of new regions of Russia.
- As Yevgeny Primakov said in his time, it is impossible to build peace on mined land," Eduard Taran, President of RATM Holding, told Izvestia. - We realize the importance of restoring peaceful life in the territories affected by the conflict as soon as possible. The realization of this initiative will allow the state to solve important social and economic tasks in the new regions.
More than 50 people were trained at the International Mine Action Center of the Russian Armed Forces in the "Humanitarian Demining Specialist" program.
