Eight people were killed and one injured due to lightning in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. This is reported by the magazine India Today on September 23.

It is reported that the lightning struck a tree that stood near a shed, where the victims took shelter from heavy rain. Eight people died, among them six students of class 11. One person was injured and was taken to hospital.

The state government said it would pay compensation to the families of the victims and the injured.

Earlier, on September 12, it was reported that a Russian tourist in the Georgian city of Batumi survived a direct lightning strike. According to eyewitnesses, the victim was dancing with a friend near one of the local fish restaurants in a thunderstorm. There was a flash of lightning and the man fell down.
