The Savelovsky court of Moscow has arrested in absentia video blogger Karen Shainyan (entered in the Russian Federation in the registers of foreign agents, as well as terrorists and extremists) under the article on financing extremist activities. Information about it appeared on September 23 on the official website of the courts of general jurisdiction of the capital.

According to the court filing, Shainyan was chosen a measure of restraint in the form of detention from the moment of his arrest on the territory of Russia or extradition.

He is charged under part 1 of article 282.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, related to the provision or collection of funds for the financing of extremist organizations. The man faces up to eight years of colony.

Earlier, on August 18, the video blogger and journalist was declared wanted. Information about this appeared in the database of wanted persons of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The blogger left the country after the start of the special operation to protect Donbass. After that, on April 15, Shainyan was included by the Ministry of Justice in the list of foreign agents, and in July this year he was included in the list of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring.

Thelaw regulating the activities of foreign agents states that any legal entity, including a foreign one, an association of persons or an individual can be recognized as a foreign agent if they receive foreign support or "are under foreign influence" and conduct political activities, collect information in the field of Russia's military-technical activities that can be used against the security of the Russian Federation, as well as disseminate information or finance such activities.
