FSB officers detained the founder of an extremist community and 14 of his followers in the Kabardino-Balkar Republic. This was reported by the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia on September 23.

According to the investigation, in 2023, a resident of the Baksan district of the republic Rezuan Kangezov created an extremist community, which used violent methods of persuasion and prepared to commit crimes motivated by religious hatred. Under his leadership, members of the community used physical and psychological violence against those people whose behavior did not conform to their radical extremist ideology.

Law enforcers and Rosgvardiya officers conducted searches of the suspects' residences, as a result of which weapons and banned religious literature were found and seized.

At the moment, operational-search activities are being carried out to collect evidence of the involvement of the detainees in the crimes. A criminal case under Part 1 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Creation of an extremist community") was brought against the ringleader, while his followers - under Part 2 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation in an extremist community").

Earlier, on September 13, employees of the FSB in Chelyabinsk region suppressed the activities of a cell of another extremist organization. Then investigators found that one of the defendants in the criminal case was the organizer of a meeting in the region of a religious group affiliated with the "Management Center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia" (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
