The dome of the outer containment shell was installed at Akkuyu NPP
At the nuclear power plant (NPP) "Akkuyu" in Turkey in the design position installed the dome of the outer containment. This is stated in the press release of Akkuyu Nuclear JSC on September 23.
"Russian and Turkish specialists have installed in the design position the dome of the outer containment shell (OCS) at the first unit of the Akkuyu NPP", - stated in the message.
The dome is an important safety element of the facility. The EPC is formed of reinforced concrete and is designed to withstand earthquakes with an intensity of up to nine points on the MSK-64 scale, hurricanes with a force of 60 m/s and shock waves with a height of up to 10 meters.
After concreting, the walls of the protective dome will be 1.5 meters thick.
"The dome of the outer protective shell is mounted in the design position at a height of c +57,100 to +65,400 meters. The containment dome will ensure the reliability and safety of the reactor building. Its robust steel structure is able to withstand extreme external impacts, as well as their combinations," emphasized Sergey Butskikh, General Director of JSC Akkuyu Nuclear.
In addition to the outer shell, the plant is also equipped with an inner shell, which serves as a support for pipelines and a polar crane.
The four-unit Akkuyu NPP is being built in Turkey under the project of Rosatom. To date, the construction is considered one of the largest in the world.
Earlier, on September 11, the head of the Turkish Ministry of Energy Alparslan Bayraktar said that the country will take measures against Siemens , which delays the delivery of equipment and parts for the Akkuyu NPP and slows down the implementation of the project.
In the summer, on July 18, Alexei Likhachev, general director of Rosatom State Corporation, said that full-scale commissioning works are underway at the Akkuyu NPP Unit 1. The reactor unit is being prepared for loading of fuel simulants.
On July 7, Likhachev noted that the U.S. is seizing the money that goes into the construction of the Akkuyu NPP, interfering in the settlements between Turkey and Russia. In addition, on July 3, the head of Rosatom said that Western countries are restricting the supply of equipment and parts for NPPs and destroying logistics. Despite this, work on the Akkuyu NPP is proceeding according to plan.
Before that, on June 7, Likhachev said that the launch of the first power unit of Akkuyu NPP will take place in 2025. On April 23, Rosatom held a ceremony of shipment of a set of heavy equipment from the Russian plant Atommash for the third power unit of the Turkish NPP. At that time, the company specified that the plant is working on the production of key equipment for the fourth power unit. Also in April, Akkuyu NPP Unit 1 started full-scale commissioning works.
