An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 has occurred in Chile. This was reported by the European Mediterranean Seismological Center(EMSC) on September 23.

The origin of the earthquake was located at a depth of 38 km. The epicenter was located 35 km northeast of the city of Coquimbo with a population of more than 160 thousand people, informed "Gazeta.Ru".

There was no information about casualties and damage.

Earlier, on September 16, the earthquake with magnitude 6.5 occurred off the coast of Canada in 272 km to the north-west of Port McNeil. According to the service, the origin of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 km.
