Guards Private Andrei Anashkin as part of an assault group successfully destroyed a machine gun crew and together with his fellow soldiers broke through the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). On September 23, the Russian Defense Ministry told about the feats of the Russian military.
While carrying out combat missions to destroy long-term fire structures and AFU soldiers, Anashkin, advancing through rough terrain, discovered a platoon of Ukrainian military.
Despite intense return fire, the private managed to take an advantageous position and destroy the AFU machine gun crew with aimed fire, after which Anashkin together with his fellow soldiers went to the attack line and knocked out the AFU units from the prepared firing positions, due to which he advanced deep into the defense without losses.
Thanks to the courage of Private Anashkin, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation successfully broke through the defense of the Ukrainian army in an important direction and provided the Russian army with further advance.
The ministry also noted Senior Lieutenant Yevgeny Petrov, who, leading the engineering reconnaissance group of the assault squad, helped fellow soldiers to break through the encirclement and get out to the Russian Armed Forces unit without losses.
Petrov carried out tasks to identify engineering obstacles in front of the front edge of the AFU defense, repeatedly being attacked by Ukrainian fighters. At the same time, he was always able to successfully accomplish combat tasks, including determining the coordinates of the barriers and the types of mines used by the AFU.
The senior lieutenant together with his fellow servicemen found themselves under the fire of rocket shells. Because of the attack, the military were cut off from the main forces and their communication equipment was damaged. It took Petrov's group 24 hours to break through the encirclement and return to the RF Armed Forces unit without losses.
As Defense Ministry officials noted, Petrov regularly encountered various types of booby-trapped obstacles located on roadways and approaches to residential buildings. Nevertheless, the group led by the senior lieutenant, despite the huge risks to life, successfully overcame the obstacles, increasing the pace of the offensive of the general military units of the Russian Armed Forces.
The day before, the Defense Ministry reported that the artillery calculation under the command of Guards junior sergeant Vadim Volt successfully destroyed two guns, ammunition and personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The agency also told about the deputy platoon commander, junior sergeant Alexander Smirnov, who saved the lives of his fellow soldiers.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
