Scholz's party leads in Brandenburg elections
The Social Democratic Party (SPD) of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is ahead of the party "Alternative for Germany" (AdG) in the elections to the state parliament in Brandenburg. This was reported by Bloomberg on September 22 with reference to a poll of the German TV channel ARD.
According to the magazine, the SPD won with 31% of votes. The second place with 30% was taken by the AdG, and the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) and the "Union of Sarah Wagenknecht - for common sense and justice" shared the third place with 12%.
Against the backdrop of Germany's economic and migration problems, the approval rating of the Chancellor and the Social Democratic Party is falling rapidly. In regional elections in the federal states of Saxony and Thuringia, the SPD showed record low results, while the far-right Alternative for Germany became one of the most popular parties among voters. The votes gained allow the party to participate in the formation of state governments.
Earlier, on August 15, German TV channel ZDF published the results of a poll, according to which about 60% of German residents are dissatisfied with the work of the chancellor. Most respondents said that Scholz lacked leadership qualities.
In early June, the Italian newspaper La Repubblica announced Scholz's possible resignation. As noted, Germans no longer believe in Scholz's competence and this may be the reason for his resignation. In addition, according to the publication Bild, the German Chancellor ranks only 17th among the most popular politicians in the country, inferior in the rating even to the Minister of Economy Robert Habeck. There are several reasons for the chancellor's resignation. The first of them is a sharp decline in the standard of living of Germans. About 40% of the country's residents claim that they have become worse off than five years ago. The second is the prospect of a new economic crisis.
At the beginning of 2024 , the rating of the SPD, in which the incumbent chancellor Olaf Scholz is a member, collapsed to a record low - only 13% of the total population were ready to vote for it.
