Sober heads remain in the West analyzing Russian President Vladimir Putin's words about the consequences of allowing the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to strike deep into the Russian Federation. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on September 22.

"Sober heads remain who analyze these words of our president with due attention and understand what they really mean," Peskov said in an interview with VGTRK journalist Pavel Zarubin, a fragment of which was published in his Telegram channel.

Earlier in the day, Peskov also noted that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg was making harsh and irresponsible statements about the AFU strikes on Russian territory because he would soon leave his post. According to the Russian presidential spokesman, the West is obsessed with the idea of continuing the conflict to the last Ukrainian and this obsession shows itself in different ways. In the case of the NATO secretary-general, it manifests itself in the form of sharp statements.

Earlier, on September 19, it became known that members of the European Parliament by a majority of votes adopted a resolution calling on the European Union (EU) to lift restrictions on Ukrainian strikes on Russian territories. According to the MPs, both the restrictions and the insufficient number of arms deliveries from Western countries "risk nullifying the results of the efforts".

On September 12, Putin said that possible permission for the United States and the European Union to launch strikes on Russian territory would indicate their direct involvement in the Ukrainian conflict and would fundamentally change its essence. In addition, he said that there is an attempt to substitute concepts. When it comes to the use of Western-made long-range precision weapons, it should be remembered that the Ukrainian army is not capable of striking with them, the president said.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the backdrop of Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. However, the West has recently been increasingly vocal about the need to reduce support for Kiev.
