The IDF reported more than 100 rockets fired by Lebanon into Israel
More than 100 rockets were launched at northern Israel from Lebanon and were intercepted or landed in open terrain. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Sunday, September 22.
"Following sirens that sounded between 6:24 and 6:32 and between 6:52 and 07:00 in numerous areas in northern Israel, some 85 projectiles were recorded flying from Lebanon into Israeli territory," the IDF said in a statement on its Telegram channel.
Some of these rockets were intercepted by the Air Defense Forces (ADF), and debris was found in the vicinity of Kiryat Bialik, Tzur Shalom and Moreshet. Several fires broke out, and fire and rescue services are extinguishing them.
In addition, sirens sounded between 4:48 and 5:10 in the Isreel Valley in the Lower Galilee. About 20 rockets were detected there, flying from the direction of Lebanon. Most were intercepted, a few fell in open terrain. No one was injured.
The IDF later clarified in its Telegram channel that the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah had fired about 115 projectiles into the Jewish State. Following the Lebanese attack, the IDF struck targets belonging to Hezbollah. The Israeli army added that it would continue its attacks on the movement's targets and make them more intense.
Earlier in the day, The Jerusalem Post reported that three people were lightly injured in the city of Haifa after being fired upon by Hezbollah. In addition, two residential buildings were damaged in Kiryat Bialik.
On the night of September 22, the IDF reported that Lebanon struck Israel with 10 rockets. Hezbollah indicated that the target was the Israeli Air Force Ramat David airbase, which is about 50 kilometers from the Lebanese border.
The day before, on September 21, Israel introduced a special situation in the north of the country because of the threat of shelling from Lebanon. In particular, there appeared restrictions on meetings: groups on the street should not be more than 30 people, and indoors - more than 300.
Before that, on September 20, Israel targeted the Lebanese capital - the IDF sought to eliminate Hezbollah Shiite commander Ibrahim Akil, who is a member of the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah ' s top military body, the Jihad Council. The movement confirmed Akil's death. Fifteen other members of the movement were killed along with him, including senior commanders of the Radwan special forces. Two residential buildings collapsed in the city after the strike.
The IDF said on Sept. 19 that its military carried out a series of attacks on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, hitting 100 launchers and facilities of the group. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant said before that the Jewish state was shifting forces to the northern front because of the start of a new phase of the war.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected Israel's territory to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip, as well as invaded border areas in the south of the country and took hostages. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
