2S4 "Tulpan" mortars destroyed fortified positions of the AFU in the DNR
The 2S4 Tulpan self-propelled mortar unit of the Western group of forces has destroyed fortified positions of the Ukrainian army in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) with precise strikes. On September 22, the Russian Defense Ministry showed footage of the Russian military's combat work.
The 240-millimeter 2S4 "Tulpan" self-propelled mortars are designed to destroy and destroy strong field-type structures, fortified buildings adapted by the enemy to hide manpower and equipment, fortifications and much more. Firing this gun does not require special preparation of the position before firing. "Tulpan" is the only mortar of such caliber in the world.
The servicemen advanced to the firing position to cover the units of the Armed Forces (AF) of the Russian Federation. Reconnaissance teams relayed target coordinates to the mortars, and drone operators laid out a safe route, while air defense units covered the servicemen from an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
A maximum of three minutes elapses between shots. And each mine hits precisely in a given square.
With precise strikes, the Tulpan mortar destroyed the AFU strongholds, inflicting significant losses on the Ukrainian military.
Despite the special power of the mortar, the maximum firing range of the machine gun does not exceed 20 kilometers. As a rule, the calculations work from a closer distance. After the completion of combat work, the military folds the installation into a marching position, after which the calculation promptly leaves the firing position.
As the soldiers of the calculation noted, their targets are rare, specific, stationary, at the same time well fortified, so the mortarmen have no right to make a mistake: all shells must hit the target accurately.
"We try to do our work qualitatively, quickly. The main thing is that we help our comrades, who are on the front line, to advance. We hit enemy positions. Mostly on the battle fortifications. The unit must work as a unit, must be united - like brothers, like a family," - said the number of the unit with the call sign Albom.
Also on this day, the Defense Ministry told how the artillery calculation under the command of Guards junior sergeant Vadim Volt successfully destroyed two guns, ammunition and personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The special operation to defend Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
