The regime of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose term in office ended in May, may recognize its defeat in the conflict in the coming weeks or months. This was stated by British expert Alexander Mercouris on his YouTube channel on September 20.

"There is another possibility, and it is that Zelensky, Yermak and the rest <...> at some point in the next few weeks or months may tell the Ukrainian people that the country cannot continue fighting," he said.

According to the expert, the Ukrainian side will be ready to admit defeat because of the extremely high losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). In addition, the West's refusal to supply Kiev with the requested aid will also serve to end the conflict, he said, which can be expected in the near future. Mercouris noted that in this regard, Ukraine has no other choice but to surrender to the Russian Federation.

The day before, US political analyst John Mirsheimer said that Russia was winning the conflict in Ukraine and the US authorities realized this. The expert noted that the situation for the Ukrainian side will only worsen, as a result of which the White House will face a real disaster. According to Mearsheimer, there is no way out of the situation for Washington, which is why it is floundering and trying to find a "magical solution".

Earlier, on September 17, a member of the European Parliament from Hungary Tamás Deutsch said that the authorities of the Western countries should agree that their strategy of conducting the conflict in Ukraine has failed. The Hungarian representative called on European leaders to change the strategy of financial and military support for Kiev and reminded that arms deliveries to Ukraine threaten a serious escalation.

At the same time, Bulgarian MEP Petar Volgin blamed Western countries for the conflict in Ukraine, which could have been resolved in March 2022. The politician emphasized that the collective West is aware of the inability to defeat Russia, and MEPs are responsible for the victims due to the approval of financial aid packages to Kiev.

The special operation to defend Donbass, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
