Rada deputy Yasko urged Ukrainians to prepare for a hard winter
Ukrainians should prepare for the worst this winter, Verkhovna Rada deputy Yelizaveta Yasko said on Saturday, September 21.
"There will be blackouts in winter, <...> prepare for the worst," she said, specifying that people will spend a lot of time without light.
The MP also added that Western partners will help, but their assistance will not be enough.
"This will not ensure 100% of our recovery," Yasko concluded, words of which are quoted by the Ukrainian edition "Strana.ua" in its Telegram-channel.
Earlier, on 20 September, the executive director of the International Energy Agency, Fatil Birol, said that Ukraine was in for a difficult winter due to the damage and destruction of a large number of thermal power plants (TPPs). He believes that as a sign of solidarity, European citizens can reduce their own demand for electricity to be supplied to Ukrainian territories.
The day before, the European Commission (EC) said that Ukraine has lost half of its energy infrastructure, or about 9 GW of capacity, its population may be left without heating and water in winter. European Union (EU) countries intend to provide Kiev with about 4.5 GW of energy this winter and restore about 15% of energy facilities to produce the country's needs.
Russian troops in October 2022 began striking military control facilities and related energy and communications facilities in Ukraine. As explained by Russian President Vladimir Putin, this was in response to terrorist actions by the Kiev regime. The special operation to protect Donbass continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
