In Rospotrebnadzor on Saturday, September 21, told about a new strain of coronavirus XEC. As noted, specialists of the agency in a constant mode carry out operational monitoring of the incidence of coronavirus infection.
"The earliest cases of this variant were registered in Italy in May, but these samples were uploaded to the international database GISAID, tracking variants of SARS-CoV-2, only in September", - stated in the message in the Telegram-channel.
According to the agency, the symptoms of XEC are similar to previous COVID-19 variants. Among them - fever, sore throat, cough, loss of smell, loss of appetite, body aches, fatigue, headache and runny nose.
It is specified that the new strain manifests itself in the same way as other sub-variants of Omicron, addedGazeta.Ru.
Earlier, on September 13, Rospotrebnadzor reported that the newly discovered mutation COVID-19 enhances the ability of the virus to overcome the immune system (IS) barrier. According to the agency, the mutation is in the shilowid protein. This makes it possible to avoid the immune response.
On September 3, it became known that the incidence of the new coronavirus infection COVID-19 in Russia increased by 20% between August 26 and September 1. According to Rospotrebnadzor, 21,324 people fell ill, 28 more died.
Prior to that, on August 16, Rospotrebnadzor reported that the rise in the incidence of coronavirus infection in the last five weeks was due to "seasonality."
