It is impossible to reach a settlement of the situation in Ukraine without taking Russia's interests into account. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told Izvestiya on Saturday, September 21.

According to her, Russia is not giving up on a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict.

"It is impossible to achieve a fair and sustainable settlement without Russia and taking into account its interests. However, Kiev and the West do not think about peace. They need war," Zakharova said.

As an example, the diplomat cited the "bandit invasion" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Kursk region. She also mentioned appeals to Western countries by Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term of office expired on May 20, asking for permission to strike deep into Russia with long-range weapons.

"This is a continuation of terror against the population of our country. We will not talk to terrorists," Zakharova said.

Earlier, on September 11, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that US President Joe Biden could not have ended the conflict in Ukraine even if he had made a call to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He added that this could only be facilitated by the United States abandoning its policy of using Ukraine as an expendable material in an attempt to suppress everything related to the Russian Federation.

On the same day, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that Russia would respond with more powerful weapons to the delivery of long-range missiles to Ukraine. He noted that Zelensky by his appeals to a number of European countries with a request to supply long-range weapons makes these states parties to the military conflict.

Prior to that, on September 5, Peskov in the Izvestia studio at the IX Eastern Economic Forum (VEF-2024) drew attention to the fact that Putin emphasized from the very beginning of the special operation: Moscow is ready to end the Ukrainian conflict diplomatically and politically, because the decision to carry out the special operation was taken as a last resort.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the backdrop of Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. However, the West has recently been increasingly vocal about the need to reduce support for Kiev.
