The development of friendly and allied relations between Russia and Armenia serves the fundamental interests of the peoples of the two countries. Russian President Vladimir Putin said this in a congratulatory message to Prime Minister of the Transcaucasian republic Nikol Pashinyan on September 21 on the occasion of Armenia's Independence Day.

"Dear Nikol Vovaevich, please accept my congratulations on the occasion of the national holiday - Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia. The further development of friendly, allied Russian-Armenian relations, as well as constructive interaction within the framework of common integration associations undoubtedly meets the fundamental interests of our peoples," reads the message published on the website of the head of the Armenian government.

The Russian leader wished Pashinyan health and success, and happiness and well-being to all citizens of the Transcaucasian republic.

In addition, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin also sent a congratulatory message. He expressed confidence that the bilateral cooperation between Moscow and Yerevan and their constructive interaction in the fields of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) fully correspond to the interests of the two states. The Head of the Russian Government wished the people of Armenia peace and prosperity.

Earlier, on September 10, Primate of the Shirak Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Archbishop Mikayel Ajapakhyan pointed out that the relations between Russia and Armenia should develop and remain brotherly both at the state and national levels, and the churches of the two countries can contribute to that.

On April 19, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that Moscow sees Yerevan as an ally, and not only from the legal point of view. The minister pointed out that Armenia realizes how important Russia is for the security and economic development of the Transcaucasian republic.
