ETC reported a tourism crisis in the Baltic States due to the conflict in Ukraine
Some European countries, in particular the Baltic States, are facing a tourism crisis. This was reported by the European Tourist Commission (ETC) in its report.
It is noted that the tourism industry is particularly susceptible to extreme weather conditions, geopolitical crises such as conflicts and terrorist attacks, civil unrest, cyber attacks and other IT system failures.
"Recent challenges such as COVID-19 and the conflict in Ukraine have shown that European destinations must be prepared for complex, long-term threats," the Sept. 5 report said.
Commenting on the findings, Miguel Sanz, president of the European Travel Commission, said the tourism sector is among the industries most exposed to global crises.
"The ETC is committed to equipping European destinations and their partners with the tools necessary to effectively overcome the complexities of crisis management," he added.
On top of all this, it is noted that climate risks also pose major challenges for Europe, affecting energy and food security, with weather patterns on the continent becoming increasingly unpredictable. Some regions are facing heat waves and drought, while others are experiencing widespread flooding.
The Commission also cites the results of a report published in July. According to its results, tourist traffic in Latvia fell by 24%, in Estonia by 16% and in Lithuania by 15% compared to 2019.
Earlier, on September 16, experts of the travel service Tutu.ru compiled for Izvestia the top 10 regions of Russia, where you can relax in the mountains, staying not only in tents, but also in glamping, hotels and campgrounds. They included the Stavropol Territory, as well as Altai, Krasnoyarsk and Krasnodar, Karachay-Cherkess Republic, Khakassia, Altai, Dagestan, Samara and Murmansk Regions.
