In Kazakhstan, prisoners rioted in a penal colony
In Turkestan region in the south of Kazakhstan prisoners staged a riot because of disagreement with the conditions of detention. This was reported on September 21 in the press service of the committee of the penal system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic.
"In the institution of Turkestan region, some of the convicts expressed disobedience due to disagreement with the detention regime. On this fact a criminal case was initiated under part 3 of article 428 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the local portal Tengrinews quoted the committee's message.
The mentioned article refers to group disobedience to the lawful demands of the administration of the penal institution with the use of violence.
The press service pointed out that the chairman of the committee is in the colony with the management and staff of the local Department of Criminal Executive System (DCES). In addition, employees of the National Guard and supervisory bodies are working in the institution, the situation in the colony is stabilized.
The committee noted that during the suppression of the riot, two military officers from the National Guard and an employee of the Department of Penal Enforcement System were lightly wounded, they were provided with medical care, reports "Gazeta.Ru".
Earlier, June 16, there was a hostage-taking in the detention center № 1 in Rostov-on-Don. It was arranged by criminals, who were held in this detention center. Later, the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia reported that the attackers were liquidated. A criminal case on hostage-taking (Article 206 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) was initiated over the incident.
Later, on August 2, one of the hostage-takers, who had been previously convicted of preparing a terrorist act, was sentenced to 23 years in prison by the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don. Another defendant was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
