The actions of the United States have brought the world to the threat of terrorist attacks with the help of household appliances. This was stated on September 20 during a meeting of the UN Security Council by Vassily Nebenzya, Russia's permanent representative to the organization.

"Taking into account the course declared by Washington and its allies on the use of information and communication technologies for offensive, military and political purposes against other states, it is obvious that it is their actions that have brought us to the stage when we may face a terrorist threat, for which household appliances are involved," he said.

Nebenzya also noted that the "spiral of violence" clearly undermines the "actively publicized" ceasefire efforts in the Gaza Strip by the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden. Indeed, instead of the promised peace, bloodshed has continued.

He said Russia, anticipating that household appliances could be used for destructive purposes, has for years been promoting the idea of forming a special international legal regime to regulate the digital environment.

"Unfortunately, the US and its allies invariably oppose any commitments in this sphere in order to preserve 'free hand'. What this leads to, we have the opportunity to see for ourselves on the example of the terrorist attack in Lebanon," Nebenzya added.

During the same meeting, Nebenzya said the organizers of the explosions in Lebanon wanted to provoke a new war. According to him, those behind this crime cannot but realize that such attempts to draw Lebanon into a regional confrontation inflame the already turbulent atmosphere in the region.

The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) told Izvestia on September 21 that there is a risk of escalation on the Lebanese-Israeli border escalating into a regional conflict. The UN mission is working intensively to de-escalate tensions that could potentially trigger a wider conflict.

On September 17, multiple people were seriously injured in pager explosions in Beirut and southern Lebanon. The next day, various wireless devices exploded in cars and on motorcycles. These were portable radios, which were different from pagers. Lebanese authorities and Hezbollah representatives blamed Israel for the explosions.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected Israel's territory to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip, as well as invaded border areas in the south of the country and took hostages. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
